The objective was to craft an authentic, eco-friendly packaging experience for N’ZASSA; a premium herbal tea brand owned by Douceurs d'Ivoire.
Rooted in West African gastronomy, the brand relies on carefully sourced, natural ingredients to deliver a daily "regenerative libation". The core design challenge was to merge traditional Akan/Adinkra iconography from Côte d'Ivoire with modern luxury packaging.
To reflect the brand's commitment to sustainability, natural cylindrical kraft board canisters were selected. The earthy, tactile cardboard texture grounds the product in environmental consciousness while keeping production eco-friendly.
Visual Symbolism & Iconography
Central to each package design is a stylized Adinkra symbol, representing the specific cultural and spiritual essence of each blend:
Adaptability / Wisdom: Stylized turtle motif for Black Tea, Cinnamon & Black Pepper.
Alertness & Dutifulness: Hourglass-like symbol representing alertness for Red Hibiscus, Mango & Cardamom.
Good Living: Curved symbol evoking health and zest for Kinkeliba & Lemongrass.
Initiative & Resourcefulness: Geometric key pattern for Ginger, White Hibiscus, Pear & Lavender.
In addition, concentric circular "radius" filigrees were incorporated to symbolize the spiritual force uniting nature's wellness into a single blend (Nzassa).
Color Strategy & Flavor Distinction
The color system balances organic warmth with premium sophistication:
Base Layer: Natural Kraft Fawn/Cream background for everyday blends, paired with a rich Nzassa Black variant for a high-end, luxurious look.
Flavor Color Bands: Vibrant accent bands immediately distinguish each blend; Scarlet Brick Red (Alertness/Strength), Lime Green (Refreshment/Good Living), and Fawn Cream (Rustic/Richness).
Typography & Visual Hierarchy
Brand Name: Set in an extra-bold, tall condensed sans-serif font to project strength, passion, and luxury presence.
Tagline: Rendered in a fluid, handwritten signature script font ("Almost Unheard Of") to emphasize artisanal craft and personal touch.
Back-of-Pack Story: Features concise storytelling set in clean, light typography detailing the myth of Odeman Koma and the regenerative power of N’ZASSA.
